August 27, 2007 - TY WARREN NAMED FIFTH ANNUAL NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS RON BURTON COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENT
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Defensive lineman Ty Warren was recognized as the 2007 New
England Patriots Ron Burton Community Service Award winner this evening at the
team’s annual Kickoff Gala. Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft presented
Warren with the award, which is named in honor of Ron Burton, the first player
drafted by the team and known for his widespread charitable work throughout
Eastern and Central Massachusetts.
“My family is proud to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Ron Burton
Community Service Award by presenting it to Ty Warren,” said Kraft. “A strong
commitment to philanthropy guides my family every day, and it is important to us
that Patriots players make a positive impact in the community. On a team where
so many follow Ron Burton’s tradition of service, Ty should be congratulated for
going above and beyond.”
Warren, 26, has made an impact in both the New England and Texas communities
since he was drafted by the Patriots in 2003. He consistently ranked among the
Patriots players who attend the most team-sponsored charitable events each
season, and has also established and implemented his own charitable programs. In
2006, Warren created the 1st and Goal Foundation, which received its tax-exempt
status as a registered 501(c)3 charitable organization prior to last season.
Through the 1st and Goal Foundation, Warren has launched programs designed to
aid the youth of New England and Texas. His foundation has focused on assisting
Boys and Girls Clubs, an organization that both Ty and his wife Kesha benefited
from as children. Last year, Warren gave 25 children from the Yawkey Boys and
Girls Club of Roxbury the chance to go on a $300 holiday shopping spree with
Patriots players to buy gifts for themselves and their loved ones. He also
teamed up with Reebok to design and produce basketball jerseys for members of
the Brazos Valley Boys and Girls Club in his hometown of Bryan, Texas. Warren,
who joined the club when he was eight years old, has also provided much-needed
games tables to the organization. In 2008, the 1st and Goal Foundation will hold
its first Life, Skills and Drills clinic in an effort to foster the development
of football and life skills in the Brazos Valley by enhancing life skills,
mastering techniques and providing awareness and insight into the game of
football.
Warren, who also contributes to the Boston community through personal
appearances at local schools and hospitals, is the fifth Patriot to be selected
as the Ron Burton Award winner, joining past honorees Joe Andruzzi (2003), Troy
Brown (2004), Matt Light (2005) and Jarvis Green (2006).

Shop With a Jock
The Patriots made holiday dreams come true for some very special kids when they gave 25 children from the Yawkey Boys & Girls Club of Roxbury the chance to go on a holiday shopping spree with their favorite Patriots players at the Bob's Store in Framingham, Mass. Defensive lineman Ty Warren and his wife, Kesha, who met at their local Boys & Girls Club as teens, organized the event. Nearly 20 of Warren's teammates, including Tedy Bruschi, Richard Seymour and Rodney Harrison, were on hand for the evening of holiday shopping fun. Each child was given $300 to spend as they wished, courtesy of Warrens First and Goal Foundation, the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation and Bobs Stores. The sole requirement was that each child included a winter coat among his or her purchases. Following the shopping spree, Warren handed out personalized letters and gift bags to each of the treated the kids to a pizza party.
Wrapped Up in Holiday Spirit
Ty Warren and the Patriots welcomed nearly 250 children from Boston and Providence Salvation Army centers to Gillette Stadium for the 14th annual holiday New England Patriots-Salvation Army holiday party. The Patriots players, including Wesly Britt, Artrell Hawkins, Russ Hochstein, Corey Mays, Ty Warren, Gemara Williams, Pierre Woods and Mike Wright visited with the kids, signed autographs, and played holiday games such as Wrap-A-Pat, a game in which the kids work in teams to wrap Patriots players with holiday wrapping paper and bows. Pat Patriot and the New England Patriots Cheerleaders were also on hand to spread holiday cheer. At the end of the evening, all of the children received holiday gifts courtesy of the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation. This was the second consecutive year that Warren participated in the event.
Brazos Valley Boys and Girls Club of Bryan, TX
Ty and his wife, Kesha, are lifelong members of the Brazos Valley Boys and Girls Club in their hometown of Byran, TX. Members since they were 8 years old, Ty and Kesha have become an integral part of the club as contributors. After having worked for the Club during his years as a football player and student at TexasA&MUniversity, Ty wanted to remain close to the Club, and has done so through various fundraising and donation efforts. Ty and Kesha teamed up with Reebok to design and produce basketball jerseys for Club members and worked with Billiards of Texas in Waco, TX to provide much-needed game tables throughout the Club.
Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway
Ty Warren and his teammates helped make the Thanksgiving holiday a little brighter for more than 200 Boston families when they passed out baskets full of food at Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries in Boston on November 20. Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft and his wife, Myra, were on hand to assist in handing out the baskets, along with Patriots players Eric Alexander, Doug Gabriel, Daniel Graham, Kevin Faulk, Larry Izzo, Corey Mays, Ty Warren, Benjamin Watson and Gemara Williams. The baskets included turkeys donated by Willow Tree Farms and a wide variety of Thanksgiving items such as vegetables, stuffing and pies that were donated by Shaws Supermarkets.
Mens Health Day
Ty encouraged men to think more about their health, while also taking part in important health screenings, when he attended the Patriots second annual Mens Health Day, a free event sponsored by Gillette and the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation. He and almost a dozen other players made appearances at the health fair, taking part in a variety of health screenings. He spent time signing autographs and posing for photographs with many of the patrons, encouraging them to take the time to learn more about mens health issues. In addition to blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, several Patriots had ultraviolet photos taken of their faces to determine the amount of sun damage they had sustained. Participating organizations included the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, BostonMedicalCenter, the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association.
Hospital Visits
Ty has been an active participant in the Patriots hospital visit program over the past four years. Along with his some of his teammates, Ty has visited Massachusetts GeneralHospital and Childrens Hospital Boston to spread cheer to the patients with life-threatening illnesses and medial conditions. Ty enjoys going room-to-room to talk with patients, sign autographs, pose for pictures and hand out Patriots team posters.
Light Football Camp
Ty joined fellow teammates Rohan Davey, Don Davis and Brandon Gorin, along with Patriots assistant head coach/offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia , as a volunteer coach for the fourth annual Matt Light Football Camp at BryantUniversity in Smithfield, Rhode Island in July of 2005 . The camp drew youth football players between the ages of 8-18 from across the nation. The camp was originally started in 2002 with former Patriot Damon Huard, and by this year the camp had grown to host 763 youth players, the largest number of youth in its history. The proceeds of the camp went to benefit the Light Foundation.
Youth of the Year
In May of 2005, Ty acted as the feature speaker for the Massachusetts Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year dinner. The event was held to recognize 40 Boys & Girls Club members from across the state on their selections as Youth of the Year from their perspective clubs. Ty spoke to the crowd on the subjects of attitude, responsibility and the importance of working hard in school and being a good person. Then, the Youth of the Year overall winner was announced and congratulated by Ty before he signed autographs and posed for photographs with the nights attendees.
Draft Day Donations
Ty and his fellow defensive lineman Vince Wilfork hosted a draft day celebration in April of 2005 to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the American Diabetes Association. The event took place on the first day of the NFL Draft in downtown Boston and lasted until well after the Patriots made their first pick, the final pick in the first round. Ty and Vince were joined by their teammates Kevin Faulk and Daniel Graham who came to show their support for the event. Also, two local sports media celebrities, Greg Dickerson and Gary Tanguay were on hand to analyze the draft as it happened. Guests were given the opportunity to mingle with the players and have merchandise autographed by the players in attendance. General admission tickets were sold for $20 and VIP tickets went for $50, with the proceeds going to benefit the two charities. The event also included hourly prize giveaways and silent auctions to add to the total amount of money raised. In total, the event raised more than $10,000 to be split between the charitable organizations.
Celebrating the Troops
In April of 2005, Ty, along with Patriots owner Robert Kraft and teammates Richard Seymour, Jarvis Green, Stephen Neal, Lonie Paxton and Dan Koppen traveled to Portland, Maine to participate in a parade honoring the service of area military personnel and local emergency workers. Billed as the city's biggest ticker-tape parade, the event featured hundreds of soldiers, sailors and other members of the military marching in front of an enthusiastic crowd, estimated at 30,000. A Coast Guard helicopter and two Army Black Hawk helicopters flew overhead, later followed by a P-3 Orion roaring over the parade route. The parade route lasted for one half of a mile before culminating in a celebratory rally during which members of the Patriots brigade honored the troops. Ty and his teammates had the Patriots three Lombardi trophies in tow as they celebrated the men and women they called the true heroes. The Patriots presented six jerseys, each with a different branch of the armed forces stitched on the back: Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard and Marines.
Egg-stra Special
Ty, along with his wife, Keisha, hosted an Easter egg hunt for five Boston-area Boys & Girls Clubs in March of 2005. The event, held at the Blue Hill Boys & Girls Club in Dorchester, Mass., surprised over 70 children between the ages of 6 and 12, who got the opportunity to visit with Ty and several of his Patriots teammates. Each of the 75 kids received 10 Easter eggs filled with goodies, some containing very special prizes. Ten children won an autographed Ty Warren jersey while two other children won copies of the Patriots recent 21 DVD. The most coveted prize, however, was a limousine ride and dinner with Ty and his family, won by two of the kids in attendance. All of the children received a Super Bowl photo autographed by Ty, along with gift certificates to Dunkin Donuts, Papa Ginos, Best Buy, CVS and Funway Caf. Based on his experiences growing up in a Texas chapter of the Boys & Girls Club, Ty wanted to provide the children of the five Boston Boys & Girls Clubs with an egg-straordinary Easter surprise, and everyone involved, including the members and counselors at the Club, went home happy.
